R&B is the one thing that has influenced every kind of music. Every artist that there is, from those that are sung the most to Adele - you know, she was so influenced by so many R&B artists and soul music - it's clear in her writing that that's where it comes from.…

I love baseball. The game allowed me the influence to impact kids in a positive way. This gives me a chance to talk to some social issues.

My father tap dancer Ardie Bryant performing at Carnegie Hall in 1953.
Welcome to the WIY? Dance Comment & Connection Wall!
What an amazing photo of your father David! I hope to learn more about his story here.
Here's a short video clip about my dad. First part is when he was teaching tap at Cal State LA when he was in his 70's. Second part is when he was out on tour doing a tribute to Benny Goodman in 1992 when he was 63. Third part is at Disney Concert Music Hall in LA doing a tribute to Duke Ellington when he was 75 still jumping off his single drum platform. His biggest influences were Bill "Bojangles" Robinson who he met when he was 19, the Nicholas Brothers who he was friends with and John Bubbles. Bojangles told my dad he had "educated feet." He told me his other big influences were Dizzy Gillespie and Charlie Parker. He studied their be bop records for about 2 years straight when he was in his late teens and it had a major influence on his jazz tap dancing style. Lot's of complicated rhythms in be bop that he translated to his tap rhythms. Enjoy! :-)
Yes Lorelei! It's my favorite photo of my dad when he was in his 20's in the 1950's performing with jazz legends like Nat King Cole, Duke Ellington and Count Basie. :-)
